Reference Electrodes EMS-1,2 / EMS-0,4 / EMS-VE

Electrodes EMS are copper-sulphate non-polarizing portable reference electrodes which are used to measure the potential difference and potential changeability in soil. They are used to control the corrosion protection efficiency by cathodic polarization of underground metallic structures and to measure the construction – soil potential. Delivery package includes an electrode, measuring cable, a cone-shaped cap (to measure in soft soils), a flat cap (to measure in hard soils), a sealing ring, a protecting cap and a datasheet.

Electrode Design, Models

A cup with a copper core inside to measure is filled with oversaturated solution of copper sulphate and is closed with a cap. The holes in the cap enable the device to have electrolytic contact with the soil. For easy use the cup is fixed on an aluminum tube-holder with a rubber handle. Measuring cable from copper sulphate is led to the terminal under the handle. Two types of electrodes are manufactured: EMS-1,2 with a full-size handle is used for carrying out intensive measurements; EMS-0,4 with a shortened handle is used as a stationary device. The design of electrode EMS-VE is similar to the design of electrode EMS with the height of 0.2 or 0.4 m, but is different in a ring back-up electrode made from low carbon steel. It is mounted on a measuring body of the main electrode with its own conductor. Measuring cables from two electrodes – reference and back-up ones – are led to the terminals MSE and VE, respectively, on the handle.
